recently i have embarked on a large scale dragon sculpture, using super sculpey and after doing a search on DA i couldnt find any help with making or carving in the scales.

so i decided to make my own tutorial for this very purpose.

this tutorial could be used for many different projects, and i hope it is.

this is what i made with these scales

if you make something using this tutorial, show me. i'd love to see it and i may get featured here.

******

THIS TUTORIAL MAY NOT BE REPODUCED ANYWHERE IN WHOLE OR IN PART WITHOUT WRITTEN CONSENT FROM KILLSLAY-STEELCLAW.
if you would like to feature this in a DA group, that is fine. if you run a group that is run in the old style club way, please let me know before publishing. if you are doing this, please do not remove any watermarks or signatures.

this is my first tutorial, if you find any mistakes let me know and i will try to fix them. if you have any questions, or want something clarified, please ask and i will try to help

Nifty trick, I like it! I make my scales in a similar way although I use a brass tube as a cutter ;)

Do you have to glue the scales if you're attaching them to a sculpture that's completely made of sculpey clay? (Or a wire and foil sculpture with sculpey clay covering it?)

you don't have to, but it will help the clay stick to the other clay. if you can't get hold of the liquid clay, you could try putting the scales on and then blending the bottoms of them into the base sculpture. or you could soften some sculpey in your hands until its very warm and soft, then in a small pot, mix it with a little cooking oil to create a thicker glue.

hope this helps.

The watermarks are very, very distracting from this tutorial, and really takes it down a notch. You can hardly see the pictures for them.

Brilliant! I am definitely going to use this tutorial! That is so much easier than the way I make scales!
