Hello fellow Art Doll Creators.

It has been brought to my attention that Etsy has changed their categories recently, so I checked out my listings and found that my art dolls top category was now Toys and Games. Now I know some of you won't mind, but I don't particularly want my Art Dolls listed as toys. I feel like they deserve their own category under the top category of Art and Collectibles.

If this is something you feel needs addressing too, there is something you can do. If you go to this link www.etsy.com/taxonomy-feedback you can submit a Category Change Request to Etsy. I've put a screen shot here so you can see how I went about submitting a request.

Etsy Listing by Killslay-steelclaw

If you can't think of your own explanation I've made one below for you to copy and paste to the explanation box.

"Please consider adding an Art Doll sub-category to the Art and Collectibles top category.

There are numerous artists who create all kinds of Art Dolls, whose listings are now categorized under toys and games. The majority of Art Dolls are NOT considered toys at all, and are designed for the art and collectibles market. The Art Doll category could further be split into sub-categories such as OOAK(one of a kind), Customised Dolls, BJD(ball jointed dolls), Cast Dolls and possibly some other categories, although these would probably cover the majority of Art Dolls, especially as sub-categories are optional.

Please consider this, I am an Art Doll creator and I am not happy with my pieces of interactive art being labelled as Toys."

Even if you personally don't mind where your Art Dolls are listed, please consider sending this to Etsy as quite a few of us do mind what are dolls are called.

Feel free to copy and paste this journal to anywhere you like, help spread the word.

I don't know if you can submit a request if you don't have an Etsy account, but I guess you could give it a go.

Definitely agreeing with ZombieHun here. The assumption by some customers may be that art dolls can be played with and handled carelessly, if they are labelled as toys. This is certainly not the case! Many people will also feel that the category devalues the work. "This is just a toy, not a piece of art. Why should I pay a fair wage for it??" I don't sell on etsy, and I only rarely make purchases there, but I will send in a form. It's really not fair at all to doll makers.
